FAQs
Q: What is an adjustment?
A: A chiropractic adjustment is the art of using a specific force in a precise direction, applied to a joint that is fixed, "locked up", or not moving properly. This adds mobility to the joint, helping the bones gradually return to a more normal range of motion.
Q: What is the sound I hear during an adjustment?
A: The sound that you hear is created by a vacuum effect when the joint separates slightly during the adjustment. The popping or cracking sound occurs when the fluid and air that has been squeezed out of the joint during the swelling process, rushes back into the joint space as the space opens up.
Q: Is chiropractic safe?
A: Chiropractic has an excellent safety record. It is the result of a conservative approach to health that avoids invasive procedures or addictive drugs. A thorough case history and examination help reveal areas of the spine that may be causing pain or nervous system malfunction. This information will be used to determine the best course of care for each patient.
Q: Does my insurance company cover chiropractic care?
A: Chiropractic is covered in full or partially by almost all insurance companies. Our staff is dedicated to providing you with a full explanation of benefits during your visit. You can call ahead or even fax a copy of your insurance card to our office and we will inquire about your benefits for you.
Q: Can I still see my M.D.?
A: Absolutely. There are instances where co-treating with your family physician is very desirable. We find that the outcomes for patients whose doctors regularly discuss treatment far exceed outcomes where the treating doctors do not communicate personally.
